Personal with Katie White, founder of Re:lax London
For a long time, I wanted to introduce you a little bit closer to our stockist partners and people in beauty & wellness industry that inspire me. So I decided to take advantage of the current pandemic lockdown situation.
I am delighted to introduce you a little bit closer to Katie White, founder of Re:lax London, a holistic skin studio in Hackney London. Relax is our official stockist and a place where you can receive beautiful facials using natural and effective skincare, including our products! Katie is also a creator of Skin School, a BABTAC certified facial course based on our three-pronged holistic approach to skincare, which I have personally attended and loved every bit of it!
What is the inspiration behind Re:lax?
I saw a gap in the market for a skincare service that worked both internally and externally and that was at an accessible price point. My mission is to help people achieve healthy skin by enabling clients to better understand what is happening internally. By identifying the root cause of any skin complaint, me and my team endeavour to provide methods to achieve optimum health naturally from the inside out.
Why natural skincare?
I worked in the mainstream beauty industry for years and became quite disillusioned with the difference in the cost of products vs the retail price and how low down the actives were on the INCI list. There is a lot more transparency with natural brands, a much high percentage of the products doing good to the skin rather than fillers, binders and preservatives. I believe that really well-formulated natural products have much higher efficacy in terms of skin health and less risk of sensitising the skin due to preservatives or emulsifiers.
How do you select your brands and products you stock at Re:lax?
Firstly, I hear the brand story and see if it is in line with my ethos. Secondly, I check out their range, ingredients, packaging and price point to see if it works for us and our client base. Then, I test the products for around 2-3months to see how I find them. I wouldn’t recommend anything to my clients that I haven’t trial for a while – I feel like I can see if they product is well formulated regardless of whether it is for my skin or not as I have so much experience in trialling products and treating all types of skins.
What is your advice for someone who is looking to switch to natural products?
Take it step by step and do lots of research, or even better, book in with a professional for a product consultation. It is important to know what your skin needs and make sure the products you select are designed for your concerns or your skin type.
Please share 3 personal beauty & wellness tips to look after yourself at home and during the lockdown?
- Stay hydrated
- Create boundaries between the working day and leisure time
- Don’t over do it with the skincare regime. Just because you have time to mask 3 x per day, doesn’t mean its advisable 🙂
